Streamlined, easy game with lots of fun and depth

I am a big fan of games that are super streamlined and simple. This game does a great job of taking the original and making it even easier to play and faster to explain and set up. The fact that the entire game can be played using just the deck of cards and some counters meant that we took it along with us on a cruise and played it in our stateroom. It is quick to learn but has a good amount of strategy, and actually gets better the more people are playing. It's easy to learn and does not require a ton of brain power. You don't need to be a hard-core gamer to enjoy this one.Weiterlesen

Rules are not clear

I bought this not realizing it is the beginner version. But it's probably best I did because it was pretty confusing to me. I love this game and hope to get the main one with all of the expansions, BUT beware that many of the rules in this one are not explained very clearly. LUCKILY the creators are super great at communicating and if you email north star games they will talk through the rules with you! The only thing that disappointed me was that it came with extra cards, but without the other half (I know it is to get people to buy the main game to get the rest) but I just felt a little cheated there lol anyway, definitely might recommend you getting the main game if you want more of a challenge. But this one is great for early players. Do wish more people could play at a time thoughWeiterlesen

Bought this to play with my 12-year-old son

We played it once and but the instructions were not very clear to us. The limits on characteristics each species can have we just missed and didn't follow to the letter. My son kicked my ass because of that. Afterwards we re-read the instructions and noticed we didn't follow the play instructions very well. No wonder the game seemed very unbalanced. But that's on us, not the game designers. Looking forward to playing it again in the future.Weiterlesen

Intuitive and easy to learn with sophisticated gameplay.

I bought this game to introduce kids to competitive gaming w/ a science flair. It is easy to learn and teach and simple enough for a 5 year old to pick up. Reading is recommended, but not required if an adult is willing to help kids understand the cards. The game includes mixing different traits to make species able to evolutionarily compete for food resources better. This teaches good resource optimization and algorithmic thinking in a simple and intuitive manner. Highly recommend.Weiterlesen
