Great game with a unique theme!
Just played our first 3 player game of Castell and had a blast. Initial setup took a while because there are a lot of peices, but the rules were easy to pick up and play, and the game is turn limited so it doesn't take that long. You move your token from region to region, collecting team members for your human tower, training abilities which let you strategically alter the rules of tower building itself, and competing in contests that pit player against player or put your tower building skills to the test by building a tower with specific requirements. The game encourages thinking ahead, and most of the randomization is with the original board layout, so this was more planning and strategy based than games with heavy random elements. During another players turn you should be looking at the festival calendar ahead, plotting your moves and potential towers. Our game ended up close, in fact we thought my friend had won, then I realized I had two more victory point tokens on my board that I hadn't counted, putting me ahead by one! Sweet victory ???? We're looking forward to playing again and teaching others, which is a great feeling to come away from a new board game with. Also, the art is fantastic, it comes with a nice felt sack to put people tiles in, and the mechanics really reinforce the theme. Building towers feels puzzle mini-game, and we quickly figured out some synergistic strategies between the trained abilities. Trying to get your crew across the board for a festival that takes place two turns from now feels like herding a band on a road trip. Being the only team at a festival means you win, but the reward is way less, because the people want to see a real contest! Tldr; if you like light to mid teir complexity euro-games, Castell is a great addition to your collection!Weiterlesen

This vibrant uniquely themed competitive puzzle game will keep you completely engaged with loads of options, variety, and strate
Review: 9/10 - Excellent! Castell is basically a competitive puzzle game. You have to build your puzzle (Castell tower), and while you are constantly re-configuring it, you can change your abilities to build it in new ways, and using it to score points. So your puzzle has a set of rules, which you are slowly bending more and more while trying to fit within the confinements of yet another set of rules (Castell performances and tournaments) in order to out-score your opponent. Pros: -GREAT MIX OF MECHANICS! All of the mechanics are simple, full of options, effect each other, and have NO FIDDLY RULES. - The AP (Analysis Paralysis) isn't bad for a game with this much going on, because there is plenty to thin about during other player's turns. 3 players would be perfect for giving players a little AP time each round. But 2 or 4 players works just fine. -A smorgasbord of great components. -A very unique theme that is used perfectly with the mechanics. -Well balanced opportunities. While there is plenty of variety, luck will not make or break the game. It is skill driven. -Great art! I'ts vibrant and keeps things feeling light. -Easy to teach. Takes me 15 minutes. -Constantly rewarding. Nearly every decision results in immediate tangible progress. -Climactic. Every round is more exciting than the last. -High quality components, including an enormous velvet bag for all your Castellers. -The rules are very clear and interact with each other well. I only had to check the rule book ONCE at the end of the game for scoring. Cons: -Box inserts are always a welcomed feature, but this one wants you to organize and separate all 150 Castellers, instead of keeping them all together in a bad of box, which is ridiculous considering that they need to be shuffled every time you play. While it would have been nice for the insert to have a large pocket for random Castellers, they do provide you with many ziplocks, so you can chose your own methods for storing. -2 Player Rules Imbalance: The 1st players gets 1st pick at new castellers on all odd rounds, but this is easily remedied by adding an alternating 2-turn rule, or lowest score at last festival goes first. -A possible missed opportunity for a mechanic that allows a Castell to collapse if a player mismanages their strategy, but there is more than enough going on here already. Not really a "Con" at all.Weiterlesen

Deep Puzzley Game with a Unique Theme!
Don't let the box cover, game artwork or theme fool you! This game is not a 'light' family game, nor is it a kids game! Oh, the game is very simple to teach, but that's where the simplicity ends. Castell is a very deep "puzzle" game, in the Euro-Game tradition, about being the most efficient with the limited actions you have available, as your opponents are doing the exact same thing! Castell also have a lot of variation and will never be the exact same game twice! Deep strategy, great, original theme and loads of replay ability? Those are win-wins in my book!Weiterlesen

Great, intelligent game for 2-4 players.
I really dig this game. First, the pieces provided are great. It has unique meeple-man towers which I haven't seen anywhere else. The version currently comes with a GIANT bag, and the pieces seem pretty well made overall. The modular nature of the game means that you will not have a rote strategy that you can go to every time meaning you're going to have to analyze the situation and the game board each play keeping the gameplay fresh. It is a brain burner, and maximizing your points with the moving parts of the game is a lot of fun if you like smart games. The only, only complaint that I would have is that if you play with people prone to AP (analysis paralysis) then it is going to be prevalent here as they absorb everything that is going on. Absolutely worth a pickup.Weiterlesen
