Cool, quick, fun pyramid-stacking/high point-scoring game with fabulous art

Beautiful art, great-looking square cards with interesting interlocking gem segments and variable card effects based on which level of the pyramid (up to 5 levels max, each card must be placed either beside an existing card on same row or above two "supporting cards" to prop up the brick in the metaphorical pyramid. The bidding mechanic adds a bluffing element as you vie to obtain particular characters, and Law cards add unique effects that are sometimes more useful when played at a particular point in the game. I'm becoming a fan of Hobby World! (Quick note on solo: as written it's just a boring high score game, so I'm currently working out alternate rules where the virtual opponent's accumulated army can be after against and which plays more similarly to the actual multiplayer game.Weiterlesen

Great game, great value.

Lot's of strategy and combinations ensure that each game will be different. The components in the game are top notch, as you would expect from Mayday Games. I do recommend the premium gems for an added quality to the game (originally part of the Kickstarter, now available from Mayday for $5). I have had a lot of fun playing this so far and wouldn't say no if someone wanted to play. A lot of replay value and a lot of game (and not overly complicated) for the price.Weiterlesen

Bidding seems like a cool mechanism but it falls flat for me.

There's a good game here. I'm not going to explain all the mechanisms this is just going to be a rant of my gripes with the bidding portion. I feel like this game would operate the same if people were just dealt random cards and had to discard some. It's almost never in your best interest to get in a "bidding war" over a card. The game is all about agreeing what card everyone is going to take and some people might like that but I'd prefer that if there's a denial mechanism that it have strategic value as opposed you're probably going to lose in a 3 player game if you are the one always squabbling with the other players. You could house rule that no one is allowed to openly talk about which card you're going to bid on but the developers realize that you'll lose so many turns doing this (which is super bad for a game with a set number of turns) that they had to right that provision in the rules.Weiterlesen
