Fun dice-driven game that needs a bit of fixing before you play

Despite its shortcomings, this is a perennial favorite with my game club. Dark humor abounds as each player rules a barony within a large kingdom. Plagues, dragons, the king's periodic declarations of war, and other events vex you as you vie to top your fellow barons in prestige, wealth, and military prowess. The shortcomings are strictly visual: the player's pieces are distinguished by color, but among the colors are medium blue and a slightly lighter shade of medium blue. I painted one set (can't remember which) black, and now they're easy to tell apart. Among the resource cubes are food (bright orange) and gold (deep yellow). I painted the gold cubes with actual gold paint, and now we don't get them mixed up. Finally, the rulebook is full of minor errors - grammar, punctuation, etc. - but nothing that can't be fixed with a pen. Everyone in my club likes this one so much that I'll give it five stars anyway. Weiterlesen

Surprised by this game

Nice little tile placement, resource gathering game that uses a unique dice mechanic to determine resources (or victory points) that you will gather each player turn. Great thing is you have something to do on every players turn - gather resources, take part in events, etc. - so there's little downtime between turns. One downside that I'm starting to see, though, is the problem of a runaway winner. While there's ways to pull leaders back to the pack, it's difficult to do so and not intuitive with the rest of the game. That said, my kids enjoy it, the artwork is cartoony, fun without overdoing it and the rulebook reads well. Weiterlesen

Fun family game

This is a fun family game that scales well from 2-6 players and the game can be completed in less than an hour. The rules are also very easy to understand. There is an even amount of strategy and luck involved in this game and it can be enjoyed by anyone. I would highly recommend this game everyone. Weiterlesen
