Lookit those gorgeous baby-blues...

This is an excellent likeness of Kelvin Timeline Jim Kirk (as played by the charming Chris Pine). It has good possibility and an excellent likeness to the actor and uniform used in the film. The packaging was really good and it was easy to open* (*I miss easy to open blister packs like this). It is great for playing or sitting pretty on your shelf. I HIGHLY recommend.Weiterlesen

boldly going where no man has gone before...and going there w/o a utility belt or a foot peg either.

My review isn't going to wax on w/regard to the minutia about the sculpting of the figure, the paint applications, etc. Plenty of other reviewers will no doubt address those aspects. I will take a moment, however, to state that 1) I found the accuracy with which they've captured the actor's likeness to be quite impressive (MUCH much better than the 2009 "Star Trek" releases by Playmates), 2) The number of figure accessories included is impressive and much appreciated, and 3) I feel that over the years Diamond Select has improved (finally) the engineering of their figures ...to a point where finally these figures have an appreciable amount of articulation while also having a sense of robustness as well. You'll recall some of the earliest ST:TNG figures they produced in the 1/12 scale were very handsome and well-accessorized, but the joints were SO TIGHT and SO BRITTLE that often just attempting to exercise the joint (to loosen it some) caused an arm or leg to snap off! (That wasn't JUST me, right?) I don't get that vibe when posing these new figures. I awarded only 4 stars instead of 5 for two very specific reasons: 1) Although the figures in this release / line have foot-peg recesses in the feet, and although the figures are shipped with what are meant to be figure stands (the individual panel for a transporter pad), the stands themselves HAVE NO FOOT PEGS! Baffling. And, 2) Although I mentioned above that the figures are well-accessorized -- and they are -- no Starfleet utility belt / holster accessory is included!. Again, baffling -- The 2009 lines from Playmates had these ... both the 6-inch scale and the 3.75-inch scale. Who made that decision? What product-line manager says, "Okay, we'll include all the standard Starfleet gear: The phaser pistol, the tricorder, AND the communicator, but -- so sorry -- no utility belt w/ the holsters for stowing the gear." Seriously? Clearly, we fans/collectors are willing to pay a premium for these figures -- b/c by 2019 we expect our figures to have amazing character likenesses, loads of articulation, generous helpings of accessories AND a reasonable standard of production, without paint smears, brittle plastics or yellowing bubbles. Why then would DS seriously believe we'd not be willing to pay the additional 50 cents (or assign whatever trivial value makes sense to you) in order to have the MOST screen-accurate, most accessorized, most-affordable (even as great as the Mezco One:12 figures have been, while they're comparable to these in many, many ways, they're also 3x the price) 1/12 Star Trek figures produced to date? I do hope the Star Trek product-line folks over at DS read this review and makes changes for any subsequent figures they plan to release. I for one, for instance, would be willing to sacrifice an extra pair of interchangeable hands if it meant I could have a holster for my phaser, or a peg for my figure's foot. Just sayin'.Weiterlesen
